Remote | 1–1.5 Days per Week | Fractional Executive Opportunity
Our client is entering a pivotal growth stage and is seeking an experienced Fractional Chief Data Officer (CDO) to establish and lead its data strategy, governance, reporting capability, and analytics function ahead of a planned PE funding process.
This is a strategic advisory and hands-on leadership role suited to an experienced data executive who thrives in entrepreneurial, fast-paced environments.
The Opportunity
The Fractional Chief Data Officer will work closely with the founders and senior leadership team to build scalable data foundations, improve reporting and operational visibility, and support investor readiness.
The successful candidate will bring a combination of strategic leadership, commercial insight, and practical execution capability, ideally with experience supporting scale-ups, fundraising, or PE-backed businesses.
This is a flexible remote engagement requiring approximately 1–1.5 days per week.
Key Responsibilities
Data Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and implement a scalable company-wide data strategy
- Establish data governance policies, controls, and best practices
- Advise leadership on KPI development and data-driven decision-making
- Create a roadmap for future analytics and reporting capabilities
Investor & PE Readiness
- Support private equity funding preparation and due diligence processes
- Improve reporting accuracy, transparency, and data integrity
- Build executive dashboards and investor reporting frameworks
- Collaborate with finance and operational teams on performance reporting
Business Intelligence & Analytics
- Define and standardise core business metrics
- Improve visibility across commercial, operational, and customer data
- Identify opportunities for automation and improved insight generation
- Recommend and implement suitable BI and reporting tools
Data Infrastructure & Technology
- Assess current systems, integrations, and data architecture
- Recommend scalable technology solutions and improvements
- Work with internal and external technical stakeholders
- Ensure appropriate security, compliance, and risk management standards
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience in a Chief Data Officer, Head of Data, or equivalent senior leadership role
- Experience working with startups, scale-ups, or investment-backed businesses
- Strong understanding of data governance, BI, analytics, and reporting ecosystems
- Experience supporting fundraising, PE readiness, or due diligence activities
- Commercially minded with strong stakeholder management skills
- Comfortable operating strategically while remaining hands-on where required
- Excellent communication and leadership capabilities
Preferred Background
- Experience within PE-backed, VC-backed, or high-growth environments
- Track record of building or scaling data functions
- Knowledge of modern cloud-based data platforms and analytics tools
- Experience across technology-enabled or data-driven sectors advantageous
