The Company

We are a Huddersfield-based medical products wholesaler supplying healthcare providers and commercial customers across the UK. With an established operational infrastructure and a strong market presence, we are now entering an exciting new phase of growth with the launch of a pharmaceutical division.

To support this transition, we are seeking an experienced Fractional Operations Director to provide hands-on leadership, operational structure, and strategic oversight during this critical period.


The Role

This is a site-based role in Huddersfield, working 2–3 days per week for an initial 3–6 month engagement.

You will take responsibility for managing and developing a team of 12 staff across warehousing, logistics, and operations, while preparing the business operationally for the launch of a new pharmaceutical division. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both strategic oversight and practical implementation.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of 12 across warehouse, fulfilment, and operational functions

  • Review and optimise operational workflows, stock control, and distribution processes

  • Improve performance metrics, service levels, and efficiency

  • Introduce KPIs and reporting structures

Pharmaceutical Division Launch

  • Support the operational setup for the new pharmaceutical division

  • Ensure readiness for regulatory, compliance, and quality requirements

  • Develop SOPs aligned with pharmaceutical standards

  • Oversee storage, handling, and distribution processes specific to pharma products

  • Work alongside compliance advisors and regulatory bodies as required

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure operations align with MHRA, GDP (Good Distribution Practice), and relevant regulatory standards

  • Strengthen documentation, audit readiness, and quality control processes

  • Implement risk management procedures

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Review current ERP/WMS systems and recommend improvements

  • Streamline procurement, supplier management, and inventory control

  • Improve demand planning and forecasting processes

Strategic Contribution

  • Support the leadership team in scaling operations sustainably

  • Build an operational structure capable of supporting growth

  • Provide clear handover documentation at the end of the engagement

Qualifications

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are looking for a pragmatic and experienced operations leader with:

  • Proven experience as an Operations Director, Head of Operations, or senior operational leader

  • Background in medical products, pharmaceuticals, healthcare distribution, or regulated wholesale environments

  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical compliance and GDP requirements

  • Experience launching new divisions or operational functions

  • Demonstrable people management experience

  • Hands-on approach with the ability to implement quickly

  • Strong problem-solving and process improvement capability
